Folders

With Web Mail, you can use folders to organize your mail into categories. In addition to the folders you create, Web Mail has three folders that cannot be removed or renamed: Inbox, Sent, and Trash. When new mail arrives at your account, it is automatically filed in your Inbox. If you have enabled the SAVE OUTGOING MAIL option in your mail preferences, a copy of each outgoing message is stored in your Sent folder. When you delete your messages, they are moved to the Trash folder.

Note: Folder names may contain only letters, numbers, periods ( . ), hyphens ( – ), and underscores ( _ ).

The FOLDERS page displays:

To open a folder, click its name, either from the FOLDERS page or in the navigation bar’s folder list (located on the left side of the screen).

An open folder page displays the following information about each message in the folder:

The subjects of messages you haven’t read yet appear in a bold typeface.

Creating, renaming, and deleting folders
To create, rename, or delete a folder, first click the FOLDERS link from the navigation bar to open the FOLDERS page.

To create a new folder:

  1. Enter a name for the folder in the CREATE text box.
  2. Click the OK button.
To rename a folder:
  1. Select the name of the folder you want to rename from the RENAME menu.
  2. Enter the new folder name in the text box.
  3. Click the OK button.
Note: You cannot rename the Inbox, Sent, or Trash folders.

To delete a folder:

  1. Select the name of the folder you want to delete from the DELETE menu.
  2. Click the OK button.
Note: You cannot delete the Inbox, Sent, or Trash folders.

Transferring messages between folders
By default, all incoming mail is delivered to your INBOX. You can organize your mailbox by transferring messages to other folders that you have created, or transferring them to the TRASH folder for deletion.

In addition to moving an open message to a specific folder, messages can also be transferred between folders.

To transfer the message you’re currently reading:

  1. Select the folder to which you want to transfer the message in the MOVE TO menu, located above the message.
    TRASH is the default selection.
  2. Click the MOVE TO button.

Note: Transferring the message you are reading takes you to the next message in the folder.

To transfer messages directly from a folder:

  1. Select the message(s) you want to move by clicking the check box next to the message(s) or clicking the SELECT ALL button at the bottom of the message list.
The SELECT ALL button marks all messages on all pages of your folder for transfer. Click the UNSELECT ALL button to deselect all messages.
  2. Select the folder to which you want to transfer the messages from the MOVE TO menu at the bottom of the page.
  3. Click the MOVE TO button.

Sorting messages
By default, the messages in your folders are sorted by the date and time they were sent, with the most recent messages at the top of the list. The DATE arrow at the top of the page appears in a different color and points in a different direction from the other arrows because your messages are sorted by this column.

The downward-pointing arrow indicates that the column is being sorted from most recent to oldest. To reverse the order, click the arrow. Your oldest messages will then be at the top of the list, and the arrow will point up.

You can also sort your messages by their sender or subject. For example, click the FROM label to sort your folder by the sender.

Moving around in a folder
If you have more than 10 messages in your folder, navigation arrows appear at the upper-right side of the page, next to the folder’s name and number of messages. Use these to move forward and backward through the folder.

You can jump directly to any page in the folder by using the GO TO feature, located at the lower-right side of the folder’s page.

  1. Select the range of messages you want to jump to from the GO TO menu.
  2. Click the GO TO button.
