Reading your messages

To read your new messages:

  1. Open your Inbox by clicking the INBOX link.
You can click this link either from the FOLDERS page or the navigation bar’s folder list (located on the left side of the Web Mail screen). In your Inbox, messages you haven’t read yet are displayed with bold subjects, and the most recent messages are on top.
  2. To read a message, click its subject.
The message appears and the location bar displays the folder name and message number (for example, folder message 3 of 10).

After reading the message, you can move to the previous or next message by clicking on the navigation arrows ( <-   ->“>
)
located in the upper-right and lower-right sides of the page.
If you transfer the message to another folder or to the trash using the
<font size=MOVE TO button, Web Mail automatically displays the next message.

You can turn headers on and off by clicking the SHOW HEADERS/HIDE HEADERS link in the upper-right side of the message. Headers tell you how the message got to your mailbox: when it was sent, when it was received, and the server path it took. Web Mail always displays the basic header information (sender, date sent, recipient(s), subject), even when you select HIDE HEADERS.

You can adjust the size of the message window by clicking the SETTINGS link located at the bottom of the page.

Printing a message
You can print your message in one of two ways: you can choose your Web browser’s print command to print the entire page, or you can choose the PRINT VIEW link on the right side of the message page to format the message in a print preview page and then use your Web browser’s print command. To print only your message:

  1. Open the message you want to print.
  2. Click the PRINT VIEW link in the upper-right side of the message.
Your browser displays a page that contains only the message header and body. You can print this page using your Web browser’s print command. The exact details of printing vary according to the particular browser you are using, but popular browsers like Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer contain both a Print button on the toolbar and a Print command in the File menu.

Reporting junk email, or "spam"
Web Mail has a feature for reporting unsolicited commercial email, also called "junk email" or "spam." In the upper-right side of each message is a REPORT JUNK MAIL link. Clicking this link automatically forwards the message to our email abuse team. Use this link to report only unsolicited bulk email, such as "Make Money Fast" offers or product advertisements.

Viewing HTML-formatted messages
Web Mail is able to display HTML-formatted messages. However, you may want to view improperly-formatted HTML messages as plain text if they cannot be displayed properly as HTML.

Note: The SHOW AS TEXT/SHOW AS HTML links do not appear on messages that do not contain HTML formatting.

Messages that contain JavaScript or Java applets
Recent news articles have described a security hole in Web-based email products. This security hole can be exploited by sending a JavaScript or Java program that asks for a user’s email name and password as part of an email message. Web Mail only asks for your email name and password in two situations:

  1. When you log in at the beginning of a Web Mail session
  2. When you try to change your password.

If you are asked to provide your password in any other situation, do not enter it. Instead, report the incident to postmaster@aduddell.com.

Checking for new mail
New mail can arrive at any time. Check for new messages by clicking the CHECK MAIL button in the navigation bar.
